My Week

I have many reasons why I haven't blogged for awhile ...

1. Todd has had 4 days off.
2. The weather has been awesome!
3. I am in hot pursuit of finding our winter fuel - we heat with wood and it has been scarce this year. I mean, we live in Oregon, HOW could firewood be scarce?
4. Last but not least - we started up school this past week. How did it go? Read on ..

Alec - easy. He gets up by 8:00 a.m., has enjoyed everything he is doing and has given me no problems that I can remember (it was a long week, o.k?)

Chad - challenging. He wants to get up at 11:00 a.m. (Todd sprayed him with a water bottle a few days ago - it wasn't pretty). The kid is 13 and I guess he's growing 'cause he just can't wake up in the morning. 9:30 is as good as it gets, so far. He gets distracted easily so getting him to start his work and keeping him there is also a challenge. Fortunately, he gets everything done really fast. I have to keep an eye out for his carelessness, however.

Carmen - ahem. My sweet little girl. NOT! I don't know where she gets her attitude but, man! She enjoys reading to me (Pathway Readers) but once we start math, she becomes a toad. We worked in Miquon last year so we began with that. 2 days later, I switched to something more fun for variety. But on Friday, she became a nightmare again. I just made her sit there with me until we finished the page. I kept encouraging her that she could do this, etc., and helped where I needed to. She has an extremely low tolerance for things she doesn't understand and doesn't really give things a chance before getting, well, rude and obnoxious. We talk about this and I try to help her but I guess it will take time for her to get through this stage. I can't let her continue this way (for her sake or mine). She is good at math, I've seen it over and over. I don't know what the deal is. This attitude spills over on to spelling and writing as well. Perhaps it's just "first week" nonsense. I have hope that this coming week will be better.

Todd has spent the last two days working on the house (prepping and painting). It's about 2/3 of the way done (is that right, honey?) and it looks great.

And I've been able to take a walk every day but one this week. That REALLY makes me happy. Is that strange?

This week is done. Tomorrow starts another one.

I completely get that Chad wants to sleep until 11, Billy does too! Every night I send them to bed at 9 and every morning I have to drag him out og bed at 7. Some days it can be quite a battle!

I'm sure once Carmen gets back into the routine she will not be so toadlike. At least that's what I hope!

Enjoy your time with them- I find I am enjoying my time to do my own stuff but I miss my kids so much!

LOL! Been there, doing that! If you figure out how to get the first week to run smoothly, don't keep it to yourself, OK? ;o)

As they reach their teens, sleep cycles get a bit wonky, so don't hold it against Chad if he sleeps in. He might really need the rest. Even my early bird, Chase, suddenly changed his sleep pattern and wakes up later now. It doesn't change the book work I want him to do, he just finishes it later than he used to.

Peace and Laughter!

Isn't it amazing how different your kids can be when they all got our DNA? LOL

My 13 year old is the same way. He is just NOT a morning person.

We loved Pathway Readers. I just loved all those stories!

By the way, what color are you painting the house? Isn't it nice to have a new look?

13-y/o boy, hard time getting up, easily distracted... yup, sounds familiar. Except that Spaz does NOT get his work done quickly. Oh, how he wastes time! I am determined to make it *his* issue and not mine. Nightly football practice necessitates a stopping point whether he is done w/his work or not (missing practice would not be a responsible option, as he has a commitment to the team), and so work gets shifted from one day to the next and piles up toward the end, which means the social life suffers. But that's life, and I am really trying to teach "life".

I know that the late sleep cycle IS both an age issue (Cristina is right about the changing sleep cycles) and an ADD issue (melatonin levels are off). So I struggle with how early to make him get up. In past years, our schedule has usually said 8:00, which quickly turns into 8:15, which actually means more like 8:40, and still he hasn't tended to get up before 9:00, and that with much crankiness. So our schedule this year says... oh, wait, we don't have one yet. :-)

Lately I've been catching him still reading at or close to midnight, too. That doesn't help. (And it also doesn't help when *I* don't get up til 8 b/c I've been up til 1 am on the, um, ahem, computer.)

Spraying with a water bottle-- now *that* is an idea! :-)

I love the routine of school starting. We started school this past week and it's been good to be back into the routine. This is our last year as my youngest is a Senior, and honestly, I will really miss the routine of it all when it ends.

I'm so glad to hear the great news about your hubby! BTW, I have a blogspot blog, too, so even though you know me from HSB, I'm commenting here so you'll see my blogspot blog, too. I usually post the same thing on both, but thought you'd like to know it's there!

God bless you ~ Julie

Starting school always makes my blogging take a backseat, I swear!

Your colors sound great! I love yellow, but I knew that would never work for our house and the chocolate brown turned out perfect.

I wasn't sure what to do for house numbers either and I couldn't justify the price they want for new one. Ugh! So I just sprayed them white (along with the porch light) and voila! they look brand new.

I also learned that house painting is one of the most tedious and time-consuming jobs we've done so far. I no longer believe that house painters charge too much. :o)

Kate, Oh my goodness, I have not blogged forever and just ran across your reply to me on my blog about me dealing with my phobia. Please email me as I would love to have someone to talk to! I like you have never ran across someone else like me either! :)
